There was never a Cheby that could compete with a Ferrari.

The 1990 Corvette ZR-1 beat the Ferrari Testarossa in all magazine tests that i know off.
I got the magazines!
It obviously beat comparable porsches as well.

Well, not really. Sure, Ferrari and Porsche, great cars. No denying. It's all about the money. GM isn't selling ultra-expensive cars. For the same $$ (Calloway, for example) a Corvette is just as good a performer. ( Oh, I also blew away vettes in my sport satellite ). I still love ya' :thumbsup:
 
But the 911 from the 70's have a six cylinder boxer engine, still have.
I thought you said "Boxster" LOL !! but... they sounded like sh!t then, and still do... nothing like the rumble of a V8, whether it's a Mopar, GM, or Ford

I think that Ferrari use a timing belt because they are much quieter than a chain.

And we all know that Ferrari's are very quiet cars. :rolleyes:
Belts don't transmit nearly the harmonics from the crank to the valve train that a chain does....

Was looking at 308's in the early 80's when I was looking at a houses to buy. My old house had flooded 3 times and was looking to move away from it but back then finding a decent place wasn't all that easy at the time here. Glad I found a house as my old house flooded 3 more times and the last time it was like 4 foot of water in it! I'm still living in the house I found (37 years) and so far, never flooded and still never had a Ferrari.....
 
So it seems there are 2 issues at play here, the cars and the company.

The company is like so many corporate entities in that it goes overboard to "protect" the brand. Remember when Ma Mopar was going to all the shows and hammering venders for licensing issues? I am not at all defending Ferrari (or Mopar for that matter) but I am saying it is all the norm these days.

As to the cars, well those that have them make corvette owners look like fine sociable people (which the many times are not). The Ferrari people are typically snobs who are quite sure that anyone without a Ferrari is sub par, but within that world its about which car you have and if you own one of the 80s cars then you are still considered a wannabe. The cars themselves are cool but made more to be garage art than actual working vehicles. It is seldom that you will ever find a Ferrari with more than 20K on it, because they cost an arm and a leg just to be maintained. They are not cars, they are rolling art and thus they are bought and sold as such.

I always thought it would be cool to get a blown up Ferrari and put a 340, 440 or even a G3 Hemi into one, problem is that even blown up they are stupid money plus I really don't like their interiors much.
 
I don't hate Ferraris, I have a healthy respect for a few
just not really my thing,
even if I had that kind of extra coin, to waste on a street-car
but;
I'd rather have the Porsche GT3 any day
it's a real drivers car $165k+
like 1/2 to a 3rd the $$$ cost of most comparable Ferraris
I like the style better too, much better fit in the car too

(I'd rather have a Rebel TRX right now
maybe next week I may change my mind too)

but, to be a Devil's advocate
You can "almost get 3 x C8 Vettes for that $163k base GT3,
you could have at a min 2 (or 3) nice Porsches
for that cost of a Ferrari, that worth a **** $350k min.
5-10 (to 20) x C8s for the cost of 'a moderate Ferrari' $350k-$700k-$1,200,000

C8 may not be a Ferrari or a Porsche, but I'm sure it's fun
not that you'd need or want that many of any of them

I had a 74 Targa S, 2.7 flat 6 & I loved it
(other than the fat/fugly bumpers, 72 & prior were better looking)
not even sure why I sold it :screwy:
like all the cars I've sold, probably had to pay for something else

I do like the 60's & early 70's Front Engine Ferraris
Daytona Spider, GTO, GT Coupes etc. (pricey as hell now)
far better, than the rounded wedges of the newer rear mid-engine stuff
Now the newer Prancing Horses does nothing for me, at all
except being MoPars/Dodge Ram Jeep redheaded Italian cousins now
To me, it's more 'a status symbol' more than anything,
look at me, I own a Ferrari, I've made it I'm rich (or financed to the hilt)

I'd think the driver would make a bunch of difference
in the outcome in a race/between the 3 too

I've had several Corvettes too,
65 396 425hp convertible/hardtop
61 S/C 8.90 racecar
71 LS6 454 T-top car
all 4 speed cars
not the best built cars
fun to an extent, the 61 was too small of a cockpit for me
a couple more I bought fixed & sold too
usually to finance my racecar builds in some way or other

should mention the Viper ACT or 96 & later
in the same context too

Ford vs Ferrari was (IMO, of course) a GREAT, entertaining movie, and I came to respect the legacy of the driver/mechanic Ken Miles.
Is the finish of the race at the end of Ford v Ferrari based on the true story?
Yes. Video and photos exist of the three Ford race cars finishing together at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. It's true that Ken Miles had been minutes ahead of the other cars, but due to self-serving instructions from Ford, combined with a technicality, Miles was given second place instead of first. Ford management had indeed instructed him to slow down so that all three of their cars could cross the finish line together. Miles wasn't as outraged over the idea as he is in the movie. In an effort to please the company he worked for, he let off the gas. It is believed that despite team orders, Bruce McLaren accelerated just ahead of Miles at the last moment in an attempt to finish in the top spot (in the film, all three cars cross at the same time).
Even if Ken Miles had been slightly ahead or tied with McLaren when the race ended, the fact that he obeyed orders from Ford and slowed down is what cost him the win. This is because race officials ruled that since Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon started the race further back, they therefore covered a greater distance in the same time. The bungled photo finish resulted in Ken Miles being denied the coveted chance of winning Sebring, Daytona, and Le Mans all in the same year. Unlike in the movie, Carroll Shelby admitted to being involved in ordering the three Ford cars to cross together, a decision he regretted for the rest of his life because of what it cost Ken Miles.

Did Ken Miles die shortly after the 1966 Le Mans race?
Yes. Ken Miles, who is portrayed by Christian Bale in the film, died two months after the 1966 Le Mans. He was killed during a freak accident while test driving the Ford J-car, which was to be the successor to the Ford GT40 Mk II. Miles was approaching the 1-mile, downhill back straight at the Riverside International Raceway in Southern California, going over 200 mph. Rear end lift caused the car to loop, flip, crash and catch fire, breaking into pieces and ejecting Miles. He died instantly.
I know they "played up" different themes in the movie, but Miles is someone I found deep respect for, as I do many of our Mopar "heros" dead and alive, like Mr. Herb McCandless. What a great guy, and he "rowed his own" and I love that!

I have had a lot of the older Vette models give me the same problem. Too tall for a Vette, but the 82 Collector's Edition I bought from my dad was comfortable for me
I would love to have and drive the wheels off a Z-06 C8. Even a twin turbo modded C8. They're BAD ***!
I'd rather have a twin turbo Viper though, because I AM Mopar Nation and some of the ABSOLUTE fastest radical street racers are "twice tweed" Vipers.
