Hey Electrical Gurus, you out there???

You ever notice how Mother Mopar always put the ballast where the hood will drop water on it when you pop it open? I think the math works out to; Hot Ballast+Cold Water=Walking.

The BR is there to protect the coil during normal operation (and points if you have them). It doesn't require a full 12v when running which is why you don't see battery voltage when running. It keeps the coil cooler and increases service life. The reason you see 12v when cranking is to provide a hotter spark to ease starting.

LOL!!! ill def. keep that in mind, Rev!!

Thanks Rev...only reason i was thinkin about removing the BR or getting a lower impedance BR; is with just 8.6 volts, it seemed to me that i was leaving spark energy on the table...meaning horsepower. but, from the sounds of all posts that just way it's supposed to be.

Get a better coil. (Think MSD Blaster 2)

Rev, is there a "stock looking" coil that's akin to the blaster (or reasonable facsimile?)
IMO the best is to get a system that doesn't use a ballast resistor. You can still leave the BR there, but it doesn't limit the current to the coil. The more current you can feed to the coil, the fatter the spark will be. Pertronix Ignitor 2&3 with corresponding Flamethrower coils will do this for you and still looks stock.
