I am having a problem in that the redlight in speedometer is not turning on or turning on and turning off.for highbeam....for whatever reason. Is this problem normally associated with the high beam switch or the wiring off the light switch....I do have a used switch and new foot switches are readily available...I hate to replace parts but this is relatively inexpensive....any suggestions....i have numerous other problems that require much more expertise but am looking for a simple solution. Everyone is this forum has been spectacular to say the least and I thank you for all your input. :icon_salut:

I was hoping to avoid checking the bulb in the dash. Started to remove bezel but had some difficulty. I do have a spare footswitch.......I typically look for anything exposed to physical force and the elements.....but in these old cars oxidation can be a pain at any junction point.

Isn't that bulb accessible from the back, under the dash?

CHECK THE BULB DUDE. theyre cheaper than doin all that foot switch stuff.if it aint the bulb...THENNNNNNN dick with the switch. do the easiest things FIRST. !

Hi...I had the same problem with my 73 RR...went ahead and replaced the foot switch which was pretty easy to do...BUT,no joy...hummm I thought...well it was time to do some dash work...replace all the bulbs with LED and sure enough when I finally got to the hi-beam bulb it was burned out...it was hard for me to reach this area with my arm, although all the time the guys say they do it...but for me it is hard to reach those upper dash areas from laying on the floor and the way this particular bulb is situated it was hard for me to even locate it let alone replace it...Marla...:icon_hang:

Thank you for all the answers on the bulb issue. I cannot still figure how to remove the bezel!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dropped the column and then disconnected the speedometer cable and harness to bezel! Still couldn't remove the damn bezel!!!!!!! I have a manual but it didn't help! Anyway, I did get enough hand room to remove the 6 lightbulb sockets....all bulbs were good.....but resistance was infinite on some of sockets.....I sprayed them up and bent the bulb wires out a little and finally emery clothed them! Put the whole shebang back together and now the flasher bulb seems to be working fine. I did not replace the flasher switch! I have no idea what worked and did not work..........LOL........just another day at the mill!

if someone knows how to remove the bezel on a 65 coronet.....please let know....i would still lke to pull it and clean all connections! thank you all very kindly! this is one of my favorite web pages these days!

You have to remove the headlight pull knob or unplug the headlight connection from the back before you can get the dash face plate off. I couldn't get the pull knob off so I had to unplug it

i think i tried everything but pulling the light switch!!!!!!!!! actually i think it needs replaced! half the dashboard is lighting......and it does not dim or brighten when you turn it.........on another note...at first the turnsignals failed to work!!!!!!!!.....i nearly threw a fit!!!!!!!!!!!.......LOL......a thought occured to me to just jostle the keys......tada!.......the turnsignals worked perfectly. One thing for sure....working as and electrician/maint tech in the steelmills for 30 years and on circuit boards that were close to a century old......taught me never to give up.......!!!! faulty grounds were my number 1 problem throughout my career. a kick here and a spray there solved many unseemingly unsolveable problems!

If the dimmer is dimming half the dash light then the switch is not the problem. There is only one resistance coil in it.

There is a button on the side of the light switch which you have to access from the back. You probably won't be able to see it so unplug the harness and feel around until you find the metal button. push it and pull the light switch knob all the way out. Now you can unscrew the hold down on the face and pull the switch out from the back.

Back to the bulb issue. Like everyone here has mentioned, you change bulbs from the back with the dash in place. Sometimes you have to dislocate your wrist in three places but this is how it's done.

Pulling the dash out sucks and you risk breaking the pins on the back of the bulkhead. Don't do it unless you really need to.

The easiest way I've found is to remove the driver's seat, get a flashlight, lay down on the floor with your feet on the rear seat and head against the firewall, and change away. :) You can see every socket, and replace every bulb without the need to dislocate your wrist.
