When I was studying Auto Technology at Hartnell College in Salinas, California circa 1973-75, our class took a field trip to nearby San Jose, California to tour an engine rebuilder facility. The employee that was doing the hands-on final assembly was a deaf/mute and it was mentioned that his handicap probably came him an edge when checking fit and tolerances because he had a very well developed tactile sense.

Probably find that the guy concentrated well on his task, and other staff left him to do his job in peace.

We handicapped sum ******* can do anything!

Well first the handicapped have to "want" to be engine builders !!

Just want to impart some info that many are not aware of. Proper term is not “handicap”, it’s “disabled”. You actually offend persons with a disability when the term “Handicapped” is used. I believe the term “Handicapped” went away when the Americans With Disabilities Act went into law.

They must get offended everytime they park.

I don't think they letter the signs anymore - too offensive !!

They both mean the same thing, I used the term in my first post because, historically speaking, the term "handicapped" was the "politically correct" term at the time of the facility tour back in the '70's. I still don't see the problem in today's world using the terms interchangeably, and I don't mean to offend anyone in the process either.

This politically correct nonsense seems more akin to censorship than anything else. Look up the terms, they are both in the dictionary. Are going to ban that book someday soon? What would golfers substitute for the term "handicap" then? LOL

I offend people all the time and without knowing it and know this because of being told that I'm not PC. My reply to that is my PC is sitting on my desk. If people want to wear their feelings on their sleeve, then that's their problem and not mine. And if I want to offend someone, one of the terms that gets used is FOAD.

Handicap is still used in Drag Racing.

So is someone "mentally disabled" or "mentally handicapped" ???
