Just picked up another 660 today at a garage sale......I was taking the fuel bowls off and afterwards I noticed this little item on the floor, where exactly did it fall out of?
Also, the carb is pretty dirty as it's been sitting on the shelf in the garage for 30 years, what is the best cleaning stuff to soak the parts in?

That is attached to the tab on the float. Its called a needle. Its what shuts off gas flow when the bowls fill.

Berrymans carb dip.. :) Autozone, Oreillys and most stores like them carry it. Wear gloves..

I see where the other one is loose and about to fall out, how do I re attach them?

I am afraid. I am so afraid!

They both kinda hang on the float via that little wire. This video shows the float assembly.

I've already taken it apart and cleaned it with the excellent carb dip from Berryman's, but I still can't figure out where those 2 little thing connect to each float.

I don't have a Holley around here. But can show some pictures of how they sit in a Carter. Which is different but may provide you with some knowlege.

I found this.. Which is set up a little different than a carter. But the Needle Valve is pretty much used the same way.

In the rebuild kit, the needle and seat is a bit different from the one I pulled out of this 45 year old 660. The one on the left is the original I pulled out, the one on the right is the new one that came in the kit. They both fit in there fine and I can adjust the float properly, so it appears to me that the new one is just an "improved" version.

Now that's done, almost finished......transfer tube, which o ring to use, the cork one, the round rubber one or the flat rubber one?

How did we do it before the internet? That was a rhetorical question.

Round rubber ones for the transfer tube. Put a little spit or WD-40 on them to lubricate the 'o' rings and they will slide in easier. The flat cork ones are for the idle mixture screws on the side of the metering block. Unscrew the mixture screws almost completely out and then pull the old 'gaskets' out with the screws. The flat round gaskets are for the bowl screws...

The little wire piece hooks onto the flat part of the float above the needle. When the float drops down to let fuel in, it pulls the needle down . Most carbs work ok without the wire piece. Fuel pressure should unseat the needle to let fuel in.

And the older I get, the more I need the net! Seems as my brain ages and not working on this stuff much anymore, I'm forgetting a lot. That phrase "I'm forgetting more than you'll ever learn" comes to mind.....not that I learned all that much to start with. :(

Didn't you owe me like 500 dollars?
