So last week at cruise night I lined up against a buddies 64' convertible a Vette on a side street. When he got on it, I followed suit mashing the pedal and roaring by him leaving a nice strip as I shifted into 2nd upon where he quickly darted off on another side street, I let off the throttle only to find it was stuck wide open! I quickly switched off the fuel pump and turned off the ignition all while standing on the brakes with both feet, thank god no traffic in front of me. I was able to coast into a driveway and get the throttle unstsuck.
I got the car home, took apart the linkage and it still stuck at full throttle. I noticed the cam controlling the accelerator pump was binding tightly and locking up the throttle. I greased the cam which helped but it is still sticking, and makes a loud snapping noise when you force it back closed? I found there are 2 screw holes on the cam, are they both supposed to have screws in them? Or is the other used for adjustment. Is there any way to determine if it is the right cam lever installed?
I can can take a few pictures to help show what is binding. Everything moves freely with the cam lever removed.
any ideas on what the fix is?
