Yeah I've run into timing lights that wouldn't work with EFI before. Not sure what the deal is with that but I've seen it. I have an old Craftsman timing light and it works just fine with the Hyperspark so I guess I got lucky there.

Sounds like you're having some sort of issue but I don't know what it is. You do need to be super careful keeping all of the ignition wires away from the Sniper wires. The Sniper is sensitive to RF noise so everything needs to be separated. You also need resistance plugs and resistance wires or else it won't work.

Timing light works fine once the engine is running, won't operate spinning the engine over like the manual states is required to verify timing.

Currently has Accel 416S plugs and MSD 8.5mm wires, less than a few hundred miles on them, plugs are new, they worked fine with the Sniper prior to the Hyperspark install. I'm going to rewire it today (or tomorrow) after work and keep all the new wires separated with braided loom. Ordered another timing light that will arrive today, we'll see if this one works. It has to be something simple I would assume.

Going to test this afternoon, running the coil wires (as they've been extended w/ 14 awg) from the Sniper EFI ignition box -> routed outside of the car to the coil. I would assume that would be the bulk of possible interference, right now it's routed with the other EFI related wires without having a wire loom. I guess whenever this is solved, it will help others to not make the same mistakes. So few of these out in the wild, there is really no reference on what to do right - or - wrong for an amateur not too familiar with EFI. Even the Hyperspark video doesn't progress through all the proper steps that the manual does, but obviously, the older dual-sync distributor video goes through the steps correctly.

One good trouble shooting trick is to drill a hole in the distributor cap at the #1 tower so you can see the rotor position. The rotor should be pointed directly at the #1 tower when the engine is around 30 degrees BTDC. You can line it up when the engine isn't running and then with the engine running you can shine the timing light at the hole and see where the rotor is.

Andy hate to say it but my Hyperspark experience was terrible, spent an entire month with a non-running car. Re-wired the power circuit with 1/0 AWG to pull 10.2-10.5V during cranking. Verified timing changes during cranking (had to buy a different timing light), verified the Hyperspark ignition box LED changes under cranking (to verify signal), recorded data log after data log, re-wired the kit too many times to count, had the Hyperspark wires going from the passenger side firewall and the Snipers from the driver side. Swapped coils, verified every possible troubleshooting step from Ethan at Holley.

Removed it from the car yesterday out of pure frustration as I wasn’t missing another major car show in two weeks, installed the old MSD 6AL2 / pro billet setup in two hours, didn’t even have the fuel pump on, was just verifying cranking sync, engine lit off instantly. Turned the fuel pump on, cranked up instantly and idled.

I’m just going to use my 2-bar MAP sensor with my 6AL2 to advance timing under cruise.

If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. (Older) MSD setup is staying on the car.

Yes, you have to clearance the head for the Hyperspark Distributor. I have a low-deck (B) with Edelbrock heads.

Depends which heads you have. I had to clearance my Edelbrock heads but the Trick Flow heads clear just fine.

I have the whole Holley Sniper EFI setup sitting in two large boxes under the tree. Can't wait to install it. I'll be a 9 year old on Christmas day! The only thing I didn't get was the CD inginiton box because it's on back order until February. I'll add it later.

I'm working on upgrading the power system right which got me in here. Interesting to hear Eddy aluminum heads needs to be cleared.
