So I went to change out my sight plugs on my Holley and the heads twisted right off. sight plugs.jpgThey are pretty much flush with the fuel bowls, but thankfully not leaking. They have been on at least the full 9 yrs I have owned my car. Has anyone every had this happen or any recommended fixes. I'm thinking I will just leave them for now since they don't leak and perhaps just buy some bowls later on.

Yup, happened to me and lots of stories online. I went back to the solid plugs.
I took the fuel bowl off and was able to get them out pretty easily.

Is there any atvantage to having these? How much do they cost? Thanks

i drilled mine out and used an easy out to remove em , i used anti seize on the threads of new ones, worked for years, after a couple years tho the clear got cloudy and i just replace them havent tightened it too tight which caused them to break cause its plastic basically and the o ring will seal better if u dont overtighten them

Could buy the aluminum fuel bowls and they have to bigger site windows like on the demons. Thats what I did due to that problem plus couldnt really see the fuel on those sight screw in types.

They are not intended to be a permanent replacement for the brass plugs. Meant only for tuning purposes, setting the desired float level without spillage.

yep, what he said. they get brittle due to the engine heat. i personally think they suck. They are like opaque and not clear.Cant see crap when they are in.I understand the concept but what good are they if you cant see the fuel.

IMO there's no good reason to use them. Drill them out and replace with the brass ones...if you have trouble setting the floats without spilling fuel, take an old oil bottle and cut the top off leaving a lip on one side that will slide under the bowl to catch fuel, set them with the plugs out and you will be fine....

I put one in just to set the level and the gas melted it right away , The head popped off and threaded portion fell into the float bowl. I was pissed . had to take off the front carb to retrieve it. It wasn't there. melted completely. They obviously made it with the wrong plastic. now I just put a rag below the hole and let it drip.

I've seen the brass ones break off. There's no garrantee on any of um......unless you paint a little anti seize on the threads. Then they'll come right out.

Never used the clear ones and never had the brass ones break off either. Is this crap coming from China or something?

Depending on the type bowls you have, I know they make a Brass & w/GLASS {no plastic} centers type fuel level site plugs, they are used on the Dominators I had, I'm not sure if they have the GLASS ones for the 4150 4165 4160 etc. type bowls... I usually just use a rag under the site plug hole, it's easy with a electric pump you don't even need the engine running, I always set mine a little on the high side too...

easiest just to set them on the bench with the bowls off and forget about it.

I have used holleys for 20+ years and never had a brass plug break off. I have had the plastic ones break and they dont seem to be threaded correctly either, they cross thread way to easy. and yes CRANKY it IS china garbage!
