Honest opinion on this restoration on this factory race car

I don't profess to know anything about restoration but one thing that really jumps out from reading through the link and looking at all the pictures is that there seems to be a really huge gap or jump in the story from the picture of what was left of it (the body shell) and the next picture shows a pretty complete car with only a picture of a couple of new fenders in between. If I had big $$$ to spend on things like this I would want to see a lot more pictures and documentation of how what was left of it was brought back to make sure it wasn't re-bodied.

I would say if he used that actual shell that was flipped and rolled then its not a clone but he states the title and all the parts were sold to another racer and this "SHELL" was sent down the road......Im lost..

Exactly. So WELL documented.....EXCEPT the restoration of the unibody.......

for what it's worth, separate yourself from the "romance" of the car and see it for what it is. a completely remanufactured piece. a huge part of that "steel" did not come off the Lynch Road assy line. he spends alot of time marketing the car to recoup the investment. Having said that... basically someone will be buying a vin and fender tag with a few pieces of the orig. steel. It's a tough decision. Good luck with your decision.

When you have one that does what your avatar is doin, why do you want anything else?

looks very ?????? rebody ???????,,,,,,,,,,,,run Forrest, run

I think there are allot of vague issues for it to be any kind of real/original survivor/or SS Racer & like others have said "maybe" original Vin's & data plates with a different body under them {ALA IMHO Re-Bodied}, with some new bogus deceitful hidden stampings, to avoid being cloned or faked... The cage is long gone, the headers aren't the original ones I highly doubt either, the original Light weight fenders are long gone rusted out, original Light weight hood & RO L/W metal scoop is long gone, no original sub-frame connection, the orig. Light weight 0.80" tempered glass is long gone, the body story is pretty phishy/deceitful for sure, engine stampings are bad or faked or the old numbers under new number stamped over them {looks like to me}, even a 66 on one side of the pan rails... at best it's just a re-bodied/restored with non-original pieces, at best new old stock version of an old style 65 Belvedere Hemi Super Stock Racer, with a great story, probably just to try to get a butt load of extra money.... It's a damn beautiful "Tribute Car" for the right price maybe {I'd love to own & drive it}, I have no idea what the price is even, it's beyond what I would be willing to ever pay too, I'm sure, but also I'm sure it's way over-priced too, after reading that marketing ploy/speech/creative writing or documentation... my $0.02 cents anyway is buyer beware, buy it accordingly, don't buy the BS

I have been looking at this car for quite some time now and I'm having a rough time about the authenticity of this restoration.
Too many parts that are not original to the car. To me this car is just a clone with a real fender tag and door vin.
Whats your thoughts on it?
http://www.garlandmotorsports.com/65-super-stock.html

After all I said previously, I like the car for the right price, but it's not/no longer a real Nostalgia L/W 1965 Belvedere Hemi Super Stock Race Car any longer IMHO

budnicks is right, its a clone now and i wouldnt pay a hefty price for it if its not original, its not worth it to be a highly valuable car being a clone, however it is really nice tho and would be fun to drive but could u? im sure its very pricey might be a good car to show but not an original like u said in your opening post.

That dont look right. Never saw an ID plate restamped with DIFFERENT INFO.

I know......and I know NOTHING about MoPar stampings but I was thinkin the same thing.

I also think it's WAY too heavy handed to be a factory stamping.

Yup, I should say I know nothing about Mopar stampings either, but my 413 I actually thought the id pad was blank when I first saw it. The stampings are so damn faint you can only see em while holding a light at a steep angle. And mine are pretty damn in line.

Also, look at the nicks and dings in the id pad. Those stampings appear to cut through the nicks rather than the nicks cutting through the stampings.

I don't remember if I saw any torque boxes on the underside either... weren't all the Factory Team Hemi race cars from the factory installed with torque boxes & crude sub frame connectors ?? even a rear mounted battery ?? I'm no expert thou, I could be completely wrong... maybe that was just the AWB cars

i call bs.the rusted shell has square edge old school tubs.the car on the rotisery does not.if it is the original car,he has changed it dramaticaly.i dont think he used any of the original and prob made that dam vin plate himself.it is a nice ride, with a good history lesson, but if he dont own the vin# it dont matter anyhow.dont waste your money, look for a real one for the kind of dough i am sure he wants.

there isn't nothing left of the origional car. yea its super nice, but i'd rather have one thats rough around the edges that actually is the real deal. i'd like to look at the vintage pics and go yea these fenders/doors/roof/glass/anything where in that picture, on that track, on that day. cant really do that with that car. i'll never be able to afford anything like it but if i could it wouldn't be on my list.
