I would like to remove/restore the coiled up spring that is above the hood latch on my 63 Polara. This is the small spring which serves to raise the hood slightly when you release the latch. I don't want to force it and chance damaging it or the mount it sits in. Anybody know how it can be removed?

There is a small tab bent over the spring bottom that holds it in the spring pocket. You have to bend that tab up slightly to release the spring. When it's up enough, rotate the spring one way or the other and it will slide out. Try using something like Vaseline, KY Jelly or your favorite lube to help it slide out easier with out damaging the paint...The key is bending the tab up enough to release the spring out of it's pocket, there is another vertical tab with a hole it that holds the end of the spring in place so you have to rotate out of it...I have taken the spring out of my 63 Fury to have it chromed so I know this procedure...

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
