What Where When: cars if any came out of the dealers with hood pins? Any? Were the dealers putting any on?

I assume why they were put on was for race application hood security under stress conditions. Anything else?

What do you think of street cars having them? They certainly have a look of business about them. They seem kinda like a wing on the back in terms of not really needed but looks cool on some cars but probably makes other think they look like sh$t?

Having been a passenger in a Ford Galaxy 500 at high speed when the hood became unlatched and completely wrapped over the windshield and roof, I'm surprised more cars don't come with them even today. My Roadrunner came with them, Durango Hellcat and wife's Mustang GT not so much even though both are probably faster.

TA's and AAR's came with them. Worked at a Dodge dealership for 3 years in that time period, can't remember if hood pins were a factory option on other cars. Yes, only hood pins on the A-12 cars.

My Bee came with them from the factory.

There should be a fender tag code.

I don't like them on a steel hood. Just leave them off since you are done with paint.

Superbird, A12, AAR, TA didn't have any hood latches so the pins were needed to retain the hood. Other than than, no thanks for me.

Sure dealerships would put on anything for the money.

Shaker hood Cudas all have them It was an option on 1969 super bees, and most 1970-1971 A B E bodies.

Yeah seems like the hood pins are like cats. People either hate em ur love em.

I am surprised the pins were a factory option on cars where they weren’t the primary attachment!

My hood is not yet painted :)

They're kind of annoying. Worrying about scratches and such. Not fun in a panic situation. BUT, you could just faux mount them to the hood. Run the cord to the underside of the hood. Then you get " the look" without the hassle

Faux hood pins? Is that like a boob job?

Safety as a backup hood latch, but mainly for show on a street car. My 70 Road Runner came with hood pins from the factory. On the 70’s, the pins replace one of the two core support bolts

4 of my 1970 cars have them. I like them personally. The lanyards do mar up the finish over the years. One could always run them without the lanyards though.

Hey @PurpleBeeper can you post a few pictures of your 70 hood pins. I have not seen how they were mounted/set up. If part of a core support assembly are the pins different from others?

What are the lanyards attached to and ultimately used for?

I’m not by the car, but this orange one is correct EXCEPT, he should have a normal bolt in that empty hole next to the hole with the pin. Non hood pin cars have 2 bolts
Hood pin location '70 GTX/RR
You might also consider this type of locking hood pin with no lanyards (?) You could mount them in the stock location, not have to worry about lanyards on your new paint AND actually be able to lock your 70 hood. I’ve considered these myself because of the locks

Thank you for posting the pictures much appreciated! Looking at the picture of the underside of the hood up into the hole. It looks like there is bolt in it. What’s up with that? Shouldn’t that be a hole for the bolt on the frame?

Perhaps I should have included a photo of the Quik Latch pins. All that shows is what you see.
