I need to remove the hood on my 1966 Coronet, 2-door sedan. To mark for proper reinstall:
Is it enough to scribe the washers of the hood hinge bolts?
Or do I need to scribe the hood mounting surface for set up of hood hinge assembly?
If so, where are places I need to mark? Thanks! Ben

Before loosening any bolt, drill a 1/8" hole between the bolts thru the hinge & hood. When you reinstall the hood, use the back end of the 1/8" drill bit as an 'alignment tool'. It should put you where you need to be.

I would drill a 1/8 hole next to each bolt. However the paint marks on the hinge from the bolts washer has always got me where I needed to be.

i would think the witness marks from the bolts would be sufficient........ if there are multiple marks, you could run a paint pen around the washers

One hole, with the bit 'installed' makes sure you're aligned, front to back... and will hold the hood while you insert bolts. You are correct, the 'witness marks' from the washers will get you to the 'up & down' finish line.

I use an exacto knife around the bolts.
That way it goes in the "exact" same spot.
