Hooked up oil pressure gauge, now tail lights stay on!??

72 Satellite Sebring, 318 auto. Hooked up a after market oil pressure gauge, with a new sending unit.
For some reason my tail lights and only the tail lights come on and stay on car running or not.
I just got this car a few weeks ago so I am not too familiar with it yet.

Where did you tap into the electrical system? I assume you just were looking for power on parking lights right? Unhook your work and see if it fixes it. Sounds like your putting power on the circuit.

Your copper or nylon tube from the oil port won't be an issue. If your on all electric gauges check to make sure your not back feeding the lamps.

Work it backwards . . .

remove all the "new" wires from the pictures and see if the lights are still on
then check to see if you have continuity from any of the "new" wires that were added to the tail lights ( you can test that with ohms )
add the parts of the "new" oil sending unit and gauge - 1 at a time - and check the lights
When the lights go back on - that's your culprit . . . figure out where that wire is going ( or where it should be going.

You haven't provided too many details - trying to give you a plan of attack . . .

is your brake light switch adjuster properly? Disconnect the wiring to it to see if your lights go out.

That's what I was going to ask, might have bumped it in the process of installing the line. Is it electrical or mechanical, what did you tie into if electric, is it running lights or brakes lights that are coming on?

Thanks for the ideas guys I will check it out. It's weird too this car...when you turn the ignition on the dash lights and parking lights come on lol someone has messed with the wiring.

Sounds like your gonna have to spend sometime on this one! Wiring diagram in the service manual will be your friend.

Check fuse block for any deteriorated or disturbed wiring connections especially any wires touching another or evidence of overheating. If someone messed around with wiring before like installing stereo or speakers could be disrupted wiring.

Well I'm digging into it today I'll let you know if i fix it or make it worse lol

OK, turns out it had nothing to do with hooking up an oil pressure gauge...BUT, I must have moved a wire or something, and it made the brake lights come on and stay on, come to find out the brake switch was stuck on and when I messed with the wires while looking at it, it shorted it out and fried the brake switch lol. SO, got a new brake switch, and aftermarket adjustable one, and some new wires, and all is good now!
