Hi,
I recently got my '69 RR 383 and it had an Edelbrock 1407 (750 CFM) carb on it with stock intake. The issue is, I get a whistle off idle and vacuum leak. I have researched this down to an adapter/gasket issue with that carb and intake combo. I am looking to replace the intake and have what I hope is an easy question..
It looks like the runner on the back side of the intake is a bit taller than the stock runner. Does the throttle bracket/trans kickdown need to be modified to fit or will the stock bracket bolt straight on?
Any advice would be helpful.

Not sure what your skill level is...
You can make a lot of stuff work with a sawzall, a grinder and some guts!

I think the issue you will have is thst the RPM intake is significantly taller, so the throttle cable may not reach anymore (at least mine didn't on my 413 when I added the RPM intake). I decided to go with a Lokar throttle cable, which uses its own bracket that mounts on the carb base. This is a great setup because it takes the height of the intake out of the equation.

My kick down lever just needed a bit if adjustment and was fine. However, if I were you, I would study that kick down setup. Take it through its range of motion and notice in particular where the kick down lever on the trans is at full throttle and at idle.

Thanks for the info! I am okay with a grinder, but hope I don't need to use it. I am pretty aware about the height about the RPM intake. I went with the standard Performer not just because of the height, but because my motor is pretty mild and the RPM isn't optimized for my application. Great info about the kickdown lever! I hadn't thought of that as part of my fitment question. It looks adjustable so I will work with that ahead of trying it on the road.

It should work fine as it was designed to be stock replacement, although .5" taller. The rpm or dp4b are better intakes even on a stock engine but you already have the performer..
