My first question on here. I have read quite a bit on single issues but there are so many issues with my car at the same time, I thought I would let you guys take a whack at some of these. any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Ok, Had the car shipped from Texas. In great shape bodywise, but, I suspect someone took the dash apart and put it back together like a third grader. Lots of screws missing/wood screws used kind of thing. My electrical problems are many. I will put down what does work and what doesn't and see if it gives any clues.

Car: 69 Roadrunner 4 speed, non air,
All headlights work including brights, Dash lights do not work, reverse idiot light works, Emergency brake light works, Fuel gauge reads 3/4 when full, Temp gauge does not work at all, I think the tach is reading high/doesn't return quickly.
Is the dimmer switch suppose to dim the interior lights too? if so, it's not working.
And lastly, did these cars come with a trunk light/hoodlight?
Thanks, Daryn
Almost forgot, Blinkers work but flashers do not

Dash lights do not work (This could be the headlight switch or short in the dash)

reverse idiot light works, Emergency light works,

Fuel gauge reads 3/4 when full (If you figure this one out, let me know, I have same problem in my 74)

Temp gauge does not work at all(Check wiring to the temp sensor on engine)

I think the tach is reading high/doesn't return quickly.

Is the dimmer switch suppose to dim the interior lights too?(Again, sounds like the headlight switch) if so, it's not working.

And lastly, did these cars come with a trunk light/hoodlight? Not usually

Thanks, Daryn

Keep in mine, I can't see the car, and this is just some ideas on where to get started. On the hazards, check your flasher. If the flasher has 3 prongs, replace it and see if that works, if it only has 2 prongs then you have 2 flashers in the car, 1 for hazards and 1 for directionals. If flashers are good, check fuses, if they are good, try replacing the turn signal switch in the column.

Hope it helps a little

Daryn,

Few things I would check on.......

Blinkers- You stated you have emergency lights working, but wrote blinkers work but flashers don't. Little confusing to feel out what you're saying. You saying you can manually get the blinker to go on off by moving the turn signal arm up/down or something? Either way I would change out the flasher first-they're cheap.

Dash Lights- Bad headlight switch/Rheostat might be shot in your headlight switch. Might go hand in hand with your dash light not dimming-Try cleaning the windings on the backside of the switch

Trunk/hood light-You car didn't come with a hood light, trunk light yes. It would be located on the bottom side of the deck filler panel towards the drivers side trunk deck lid hinge

Temp gauge- Is there a temp gauge with a wire running to it installed on the engine? Try changing out the sensor?

Fuel gauge- pretty typical problem you see arise here on FBBO. Past fixes in the past...Missing little metal ground strap, more of a bend in level arm on fuel sending unit, wiring issues..

Tach- Like all of the rest of the issues, start with the wiring first (grounds and connection condition especially). Get a schematic, follow the wires from A to B, and go from there.

Here's a couple wiring schematics for ya:

Hopefully some of this will get you on the right track..Good luck moving forward

LOL...Just go into it with a clear positive attitude Daryn. You'll get it. Worst part is having to be a contortionist to get to the wiring under the dash.
