How many here know the true
meaning?
Restomods, full concourse
restorations don't count.
Neither do Ratrods, though
I've seen some that peak
my interests.
I'm talking about cars built on
ingenuity, limited budget, and
a vision of the end result.
In the 50's, the field was wide open
as per available powertrains, body
styles, and manufactured aftermarket
parts that were just beginning to
realize an audience.
What's your definition?
I grew up in this era, and remember
a lot of cool cars I'd love to call
my own.
Most here strive for the restoration
aspect. Very commendable.
Please post pics if your build
follows the true definition of a
hotrod.

Most Restomods and Ratrods fall right in the exact explanation that you just gave for a Hotrod. The only thing different is ones personal vision for a car.

I like period-correct cars of the 30's & 40's into early 50's
many were from the soldiers that came back from the war/s
& still wanted to have fun, have their hair on fire, going Mach 2

but I don't limit my likes to them only

I like all kinds of "hot-rods"
even current build, that rea way overdone
still cool

not a big fan of the tires sticking way out
but it was a cool premise
from the 1979 Movie 'Hot Rod'
His Hemi Belvedere got totaled & put the drivetrain & later blower
into the Willys a bunch of scenes at Fremont/Baylands Raceway

needs different wheels & tires
not a huge fan of big whitewalls & hubcaps either

again I'd like to see different wheels & tires
but stance is great

Modified but mostly stock bodies.....and fast. My Belvedere I had no front bumper but had a glass hood and was lowered some along with a weight reduction plan. It had a straight pipe like just about all of my vehicles but wasn't all that fast.....in fact, it was darn right slow but was consistent on the 1/4 mile and so long as I could cut a decent light, it had the chance of winning....and it did. However, it looked kinda like a mild rat rod back in the early 90's with primer and some good paint and areas that had been sanded and body worked.

'full blown' perfect Show car, but phenomenal
30 Ford 5 window
with Halibrands & Arden Hemi/Flathead conversion
very period correct for a lakester or early NHRA hot rod

How often was that car driven on the street?
who cares
probably never
still freaken' cool as hell

Great 8 awarded or Most Beautiful Roadster awarded

I'd drive the piss out of it
after it was done on that show circuit
some guys are into that stuff
I'm not really 'a show' guy
sitting around watching people look at other people's cars

I like an event & something to do with the car
not just sit behind it
& then drive it back home even,
put it away in the garage, until the next show somewhere

That's not my deal

I still respect 'all the work' (investments) that go into it

Good looks & style, is still good style/looks, showboat or not

That was my point.....to me, hot rods are meant to be driven just like our 60's and early 70's cars were meant to be. 1970 Hemi Cuda all original car...maybe not but if I had the money to buy one and restore it, I might not drive it much either but would time to time but drove my 340 71 Cuda a LOT but sold it for what I thought was stooopid money in the mid 90's. Oh well. IF I can get my 66 Belvedere going again, it'll be driven and hard.
