I've about spent my lifes savings building a replica of the first REAL MUSCLE CAR I ever rode in and receiving a lasting impression. 64 Belvidere with all new Coil-over susp built 727, DANA 60, which I have dubbed "Sprit of 43" as a tribute to KING Richard. In 64 my fellow worker brought his spanking new 64 Sport Fury w/ 426 HEMI 4 speed out of town on our job. I rode back 2 or 3 hundred miles home with him, and promptly got out and kissed the earth.
Mine has a heating problem. Is there any criteria for radiator size and coolant capacity on a 528 crate motor? I'm considering a product called "Evans Colling System" which is an anti-freeze substitute. Anyone have any experiance with that? I also have a Prowler which I installed a 5.7 HEMI into which also has a small heat problem. I installed the Evans product in it and did notice it will not boil so there is that benefit.
Will appreciate any help.

Do you have good air flow through the radiator and is the heat getting out of the engine compartment?

Also the richer the mixture the hotter the exhaust gas temp thus more heat into the water jacket. Also retarded timing can be an issue.
 
It's my understanding that glycol doesn't heat exchange as well as water. So before you spend money on a magic elixir that has a higher boiling point than water (which would still allow the motor to run hot) I might try running almost 100% water to see what happens. Then if that works/helps, I'd add some rust inhibitor. And if your garage isn't heated, then I'd add glycol for winter

Also, make sure your radiator does NOT have a higher than O.E. fin count

Yes to the above and a little added info.

100% Antifreeze does not cool as well as a 50% split of antifreeze and water. Many stores now sell a 50/50 split but I don't buy it because they use simple tap water for the split. Tap water varies depending on your location but ALWAYS has a lot of minerals in it. These minerals heat in your cooling system and create deposits that are left behind in your cooling system to clog it. I buy 100% antifreeze and split it to 50/50 myself using distilled water that has none of these minerals.

Use the above 50/50 split first and if your cooling system is "right" and you still are having problems you may want to use a product callec Water Wetter.

Never use 100% water even if it is distilled as it will create rust in the system. The antifreeze has a rust inhibitor in it.

I have posted about cooling systems and the need for correct radiator, shroud, and fan placement here before so you should be able to search the site for it. This comes up often so maybe it should become a sticky.
