how big?

ok the last b-body i owned was a mini tubbed 66 corronet that rolled on 28x12.5x15 mickey thompsons so here is the question. how big of a tire can be safley tucked into a stock wheelhouse of a 1967 satellite? I am not wanting to do the spring relocate thing but could if needed. 15" wheel,how wide? backspacing? i think a 26" tall tire fills the well nicely, what about 28"?your opinions please:eusa_pray:thank you in advance.

275-60x15 on 8" wheel with 4.5" backspace was about as big as my 65 coronet would take without any changes. wheelwells would be very similar between the 65 and 67.

I have 275/60 R15s on 8" rims, 4.5 backspace on my 66 satellite and they are a little bit too big, because they rub even with air shocks. I'd suggest something a little smaller, maybe a 255/60 or 70.

Just for the record- 66 and 67 B bodies have smaller and more limiting space than a 65. The 65 is "HUGE" by comparison.
With the outer lip of the 1/4 panel completely removed, springs in stock location, stock inner wheel house and no cutting the front outer 1/4 I run a M/T 28 x 9 ET slick or a 11.50 x 28 M/T ET Street tire.
That fits with no rubbing or interference what so ever.

actionange1, that is a gorgeous ride!!! the previous owner trimmed the outer lip and some of the wheelhouse so I have a little extra clearance. I like the idea of a 28x 11.5 that is a good size. thank you!

I have run the Mickey Thompson 28x12.50 ET streets with minimal rubbing after cutting the inner fender lip out and grinding a hair off the springs were the tire is a little tight. The only rub was going around tight corners quickly. Car looked awesome with these tires. They were mounted on 15x8 Weld Pro Stars with a 4.5" back space. Plan on running this size again this season coming.
Car works well with these and has a 1.605 60 ft. with a small block in a street car.

Sure i used a 15 x 7 steel rims front & rear with a 4.5 inch backspacing now with that said i did have to trim the wheel well lip about 1/2 to make sure i had plenty of clearance also i had to let most of the air out of my tires to angle them in to the wheel wells but after i got them in and filled them back up with air i have 1 inch of clearance on the back side and about 1 1/8 or a little more on the wheel well lip.! The tires i used where BFG front & rear.

front tires are 245/60/15 BFG
Rears tires are 275/60/15 BFG

A side note what i mean by wheel well lip is where the wheel well is and it is the part that from the factory has a small lip area that turns back under the car just to let you know.!

I run Hoosier 30X9 inch radial slicks on my '66 Coronet on a 15X8 inch wheel. I had to trim about a 1/4 inch off of the outer wheel opening lip and massage (w/a hammer)the outer wheel housing. I also put a 1/4 inch spacer between the front spring hangar and mount. So the car actually has a 1/4 longer wheelbase. The tread is actually 10 inches wide on these tires - they never rub.

A 275-60-15 has a tread width of 9"+ and it should not be run on anything smaller than an 8" wheel. Yeah, running a 7 will pull the sidewalls in a bit more but you will also have to run a lower psi to get a good footprint and that will cause more sidewall flex.

Mine don't rub at all period.! And i have went around corners faster than i ever did with my last set up and they have yet to rub.!
