How long should distributor bolt be?

I have everything timed and carb adjusted but distributor bolt doesn't seem like it is long enough to lock down fully? What should the length be?

Big blocks have a long bolt (about 1.5 inches) didn't measure it. Small block is shorter,maybe 1 inch

The bolt that is in it is only 1.25 inches so will have to get a new one tomorrow.
