I've got an extra 4oz. bottle of GM whale sperm on the shelf, but not sure how much is needed for my 8.75 w/PL

Also, how many quarts of oil will it take total? (can't measure the amount on my garage floor lol)

Usually you use the entire bottle. Add more if the diff feels like it chatters. Fluid level depends on the model. An A body will use just over 2 quarts. A truck or C body is closer to 2 3/4 quarts.

I was thinking about using a little less since I'll be breaking in new gears.

I won't be doing any burnouts or hard driving, so it should be ok.

Well, since I'm on a B-Body forum..... ;)

It's also a 489 case if that makes any difference

most friction modifiers come in 4 oz bottles,so that would be a good amount to use.as long as the rear diff is at about the same pinion angle it rides at when filled, just top off till it trickles out the fill hole.should be just less then 2 qts.

Pre soak the friction materials in the 4 oz additive then add it to the diff if your installing new friction material. leave in over nite, this only applies to Dana Power Loc. The newer manufacturers play a different game.

Same old clutches, but new ring and pinion.

I know too much friction modifier isn't good when breaking in new gears, but would I hurt anything in the diff by not using any friction modifier? (at least for the break in period)

I'll be taking it easy for 500 miles, then changing the oil and inner axle seals before letting her rip
