Here's the opposite end of the rail I posted earlier. I'd say it was a two man job, sober worker on one end, after lunch buzz on the other!
If you can find 1/16 rods possibly 6011 that would be good for thinner sheet metal. Using straight polarity which gives less penetration is another option. Ive welded stainless commercial sinks using 1/16 rods. Vertical up requires a higher skill level however on that thin a material. MIG is really the only good thing and I've only seen guys gas weld panels in if they didn't have a MIG welder. Depends on what thickness sheet metal were talking. 1/8" plate is referred to as 10gauge and goes from there. Im basically referring in this thread to thinner sheet then 10,11,12 gaugeDC low voltage and small rod will weld sheet metal.
