I tried that alreadyI just went through this last week, and I have the answer!
put a 9/16 socket on an extension....
insert the socket into the top of the plug....
put a little dish soap on the plug......
using a hammer, drive it in!
they will go in fairly easily,
I as almost tempted to do something stupid like open up the holes a little
a 5/8 socket is too big...... you are welcome!
I don't think that's going to do it. It's starting to cut through the rubber.pretty hard, I guess,...... I used a framing hammer, not a sledge........ few good shots, no metal was distorted, once you get one to go, the others will be easy
I started with a 5/8 socket, and kinda stumbled onto the 9/16
In the first post, all suggestions welcomed.I'm just watching from outside on this conversation and wonder what the dia. of the plug in question is at the place it will fit the bore of the hole?
Maybe the question hear is just about getting them in place?
After taking many out and installing them I have found them to resist. They are not very soft.

Yep, that's the crap I boughtws23jrt...thats incorrect...The issue is the repro market and the problems with them selecting universal plug for the kits they offer...
That OE plug I posted above came out of my 69 GTX and will get cleaned up to go back in...The originals are hard with age and I boil them and clean with sem vinyl prep and then back to black...That plug pictured was hard and boiled and is soft and pliable..I just now went out to the X and pressed in in by hand. It fits tight...
Comparison of the diameters of the OE and new....My build thread in the restoration section is comparing A LOT of old versus new...I am restoring my plugs and the ones that don't look like new I found original replacements...
