I've got some floor plugs to put in but they don't seem to fit. The hole measures .981 and the plug measures 1.170. I tried to boil it to soften it but it didn't work. Are they the right ones?

Have you tried using some WD-40 or a little ATF on them?

I've tried soap, jelly, pinching it sideways and then snapping in as well as a punch and pushing through the center and a rubber hammer. And I just got done trying WD40.
There is no way these can be this tight.

There is 6 of them in the kit. I'm assuming they go behind the drivers seat. The holes in the trunk measure the same diameter.

I just went through this last week, and I have the answer!

put a 9/16 socket on an extension....
insert the socket into the top of the plug....
put a little dish soap on the plug......
using a hammer, drive it in!

they will go in fairly easily,

I as almost tempted to do something stupid like open up the holes a little

a 5/8 socket is too big...... you are welcome!

They do not go inside the trunk area. They go inside the seating area.

Here is an original plug with that same PN....Some difference in the measurement..

I will search for a pic of the plugs prior to removal...

I tried that already

try it again....... I got all of them in once I got the right combo

they are significantly bigger than the hole, but they do go in..... a 1/2 inch socket may work even better, but I didn't have to try

Eldubb440... how hard did you hit it to seat?
Justin... that's a big difference in size for having the same part #

pretty hard, I guess,...... I used a framing hammer, not a sledge........ few good shots, no metal was distorted, once you get one to go, the others will be easy

I started with a 5/8 socket, and kinda stumbled onto the 9/16

I'm just watching from outside on this conversation and wonder what the dia. of the plug in question is at the place it will fit the bore of the hole?
Maybe the question hear is just about getting them in place?
After taking many out and installing them I have found them to resist. They are not very soft.

I don't think that's going to do it. It's starting to cut through the rubber.

In the first post, all suggestions welcomed.

ws23jrt...thats incorrect...The issue is the repro market and the problems with them selecting universal plug for the kits they offer...

That OE plug I posted above came out of my 69 GTX and will get cleaned up to go back in...The originals are hard with age and I boil them and clean with sem vinyl prep and then back to black...That plug pictured was hard and boiled and is soft and pliable..I just now went out to the X and pressed in in by hand. It fits tight...

Comparison of the diameters of the OE and new....My build thread in the restoration section is comparing A LOT of old versus new...I am restoring my plugs and the ones that don't look like new I found original replacements...

Thanks--I can still learn new stuff.--My task these days is retaining (and mixing) new information and fitting it with the old. I have no experience with aftermarket plugs.

put some soap on it and drive it home!....... if the plug doesn't survive, it was junk anyway......... come on, make me proud!

I'm not coming to Texas to do it for you!
