Have a 69 383 that was factory ac. The compressor itself has a pulley with dual groves and so does the alternator which then hit the crank pulley. I want to get rid of the ac compressor for cosmetic reasons and the only reason i haven't thus far is because the alternator pulley wouldn't match up to the water pump pulley or crank if i got rid of it. What do I need to get to make the alternator match up to the water and crank shaft pulley? New alternator bracket? New water pump pulley?

Is your car PS or MS? If power then you need double groove pulleys for no A/C and PS. You need to replace the crank and water pump pulleys with 2 grove pulleys. The alternator should be fine. If you have MS steering you will need a 2 groove crank pulley and a single groove water pump pulley. You will also need the brackets for Non a/c which are completely different than the brackets for a/c.

I have PS. And my crank pulley is a double groove. My Water pump is a single and has its own groove on the crank pulley with a tension-er pulley. So would I just need a new water pump pulley?

I believe you will need the alternator brackets and a double groove WP pulley for a setup with PS and non-a/c. The non-a/c setup does not use a tensioner pulley. The tension is adjusted by the alternator bracket.

That's what I figured. Any idea on where to get the proper brackets and pulley?

swap meets and bone yards are your best bet. I will take a look and see what I have laying around and let you know. Look for BB B and E bodies from about 66-77. Trucks might even work as well

440 source has them. I am having a challenge getting the correct pulleys and brackets for mine . Got everything out of my spare parts except a water pump pulley that has a groove closer to the engine side than what I have . It would need to be pretty close to the water pump. Is there such a pulley available?`.............................MO
