1) What are some good alternatives to FedEx and UPS? (I been trying to contact each of them about becomning a "shipper" but cant get past the automated phone attendant.)
2) How do you ship large items? (hoods, fenders, etc)

ive heard you can ship big stuff thru greyhound. you could also use truck freight, but that's $$$$$$$

A friend of mine has shipped pallets of stuff through Amtrak- very cheap for the distance covered. If you're a line, worth checking out.

I heard "some" will come to your home (freight company) and pick up, weigh, do any paper work, you pay them, and they take whats being sold like an engine we'll say, and ship it out, Any truth to that Mar? Ive never sold anything like an engine or trans, but i thought you had to take it to them..

Old Dominion does pickup and drop off @ your house if you want (http://www.odfl.com) w/lift gates on a 42', 48' or 53' trailer; and they will take care of everything including paperwork, but you're going to pay for it.

just gotta wrap the motor or trans very well and secure it to the pallet so there's no dispute if it gets damaged en route.

it is def a lot cheaper if you can bring it to their dock...

just depends your situation...
