Does anyone have anything to say about the Hughes performance transmissions? Looking to swap from smallblock to big block and not sure if this would be a cheaper alternative to buying a core and having it rebuilt.

Good question,
Well, I have had 3 727s re-built.
1. With me helping, $500 (Trans for the Hemi 70 Bee)
2. Trans for the 63 Max Wedge Polara (Clone) $1,000
3. Trans for the 67 GTX $600

So;
It depends on how much you want to spend and how much the Hughes trans cost.

used a Hughes converter once, it was a POS, not sure how there trannys are, i build my own, they are rather simple to do

Tear it down and check for burnt clutches or bands if all good put it back together. they are pretty simple units.

I currently have 3 Hughes convertors
Again:
Hemi Bee, Love it!
63 Polara not running yet
And the most recent I purchased: For the 67 GTX: 2,400 stall
I will only purchase Hughes convertors

Okay so here's where I'm at.. Swapping for smallblock to big block, got a 727 from a friend but it has no valve body, my smallblock trans was rebuilt very recently, are parts interchangeable?

Yes, all internal parts including valve body will interchange provided both transmissions are of the same vintage.
