Update for anyone that's interested. Both cars have been sold to a new owner.

He had Worman restore his other Daytona Charger, so most likely these two will be going to him as well.

The 'Bird is going to be restored by Magnum Auto Restorations, I haven't heard who's getting the Daytona.

Its going to be a bit of a trick to get the Super Bird upright without doing further damage.l

Unfortunately, they did do further damage, mangled one of the fenders at least, I'm not sure how much difference it makes given all the rest of the damage.

I would be walking around the neighborhood.looking for the rear window and window moldings that were popped out of the Daytona!

He supposedly found the rear window, unbroken, I think he found it like a block away. He also found all but one of the moldings.

For anyone going to MCACN this weekend the 'Bird will be on display there if you're interested in seeing it.

It's great to hear that the cars are going to be saved,and great to hear that the rear glass and all but one of the moldings were recovered. I hope that they sprayed the bird with something to neutralize the saltwater damage before displaying it at the show.

Quick update on the 'bird for anyone that's interested, @chargervert this may interest you a bit. The 'bird has finally been completely disassembled and the shell was delivered to
Redi-Strip sometime early last week or late the week before. All the salvageable parts were either soaked in Evapo-rust or just hand washed, depending on what the parts were, to clean them and neutralize any further effects of the saltwater. The engine's been dropped off at the rebuilders so that it can get disassembled, neutralized, and the damage assessed, I'm sure by now those three steps have been completed. The trans; I'm not sure of the status, hopefully it's been disassembled and neutralized. Everything's been cleaned, bagged, tagged, shelved, and a bunch of new parts have already been ordered.

Anyway, I thought some of you may be interested in the progress, I wonder how long Redi-Strip will take to turn the shell around.

Yes. my understanding is the new owner was trying to buy both of the cars for a while, before they got damaged in the storm, but the previous owner wasn't sure that he wanted to sell. I guess his wife was attached to them and didn't want him to sell them. Of course, after the storm they had lost some of their appeal, so it was easier to part with them.

Why not go through insurance? It seems to me that if they were insured for their proper amount, that would have netted more for the seller.

I don't know anything about what kind of a deal they worked out. It does seem that the seller would have made out better by taking the money and leaving the cars to the insurance company. My understanding is that the previous owner really is a car guy so maybe he was just worried about the cars going to scrap.

Yes, whoever did the car the first time around did do some sculpting. I'm curious how much worse it's going to be when it's down to bare metal.

He probably didn't want to wait however long it would be to get the cars back when he could replace them far sooner by picking them up at auction.

It'll be about a two year restoration for the 'bird but it'll be right when it's done. This will be the 15th Superbird that Magnum has restored so they know them inside and out. The Daytona is getting restored by a shop in Florida, I don't know the name of the shop, but my understanding is that they've restored a bunch of Daytona's so presumably they're very familiar with them. That was one of the big reasons that the two shops were chosen, one is a Superbird expert and the other is a Daytona expert.

I'd love to know who restored the 'bird the first time around, from the look of all that putty it's not very impressive work.

I just watched a video of the cars filmed from the second floor of the house during the storm,the cars were completely submerged in ocean salt water,with only the top of the roofs and the wingblades to be seen above the water level. Pretty hard to watch. This is the Daytona after being towed to the restoration shop.
