HURST FACTORY 4 SPEED SHIFTER

Are you sure the shifter mechanism and rods are the correct ones for your transmission/vehicle.?????????? You need to be sure all parts are correct/matching.
If it is you should be OK to just line up the notches/holes and it should work.
In your pic I believe that one arm would be further forward.
The information and picture from Paul G is spot on correct. Follow his explanation and it should work.
In saying that you have not mentioned what car you have or any other info.

Its a 66 Plymouth Belvedere II. It has a 440 in it with 4 speed. My shifter is a factory b-body hurst shifter and I am using correct factory mopar b-body linkage and arms.

I had a similar problem. I was able to adjust first and second/third and forth to work as they should...reverse was a challenge. I finally ended up adjusting the reverse rod to work by ignoring the "adjustment pin" location.
