Was strolling through summit and noticed on some of their kits it says the lifters wont work pre 1968. Others don't show the warning. Anyone know off the top of their head what the difference(s) are?
Thanks

Don't hold me to this, but.....
I think the socket in the lifter for the pushrods is a different radius, so the stock pushrods were different. I think the early pushrods cups were smaller.

I think you are right. My machine shop wanted to know if I was reusing the pushrods on my 67 Coronet R/T. I specified the cam, but not the lifters I wanted.

You are correct. The lifter end tapers down on 1967 and earlier BB Mopar push rods, and the cup in the lifter is smaller.

Archive it for future generations and searchers.

Not a big problem... Throw the 67 & earlier pushrods away & use 68 & up pushrods with the 68 & up lifters....

I recently worked on a early 68 engine that had never been apart.... It had 15 68 & later type pushrods & lifters..... And one 67 type pushrod & lifter....

Right on! So buy the kit and new pushrods or re-use the old lifters and pushrods with only a new cam.

New cam = new lifters= new pushrods! Done!

Do NOT reuse old lifters on a new cam..... Unless of course you like metal particles floating around in your oil...

Or your running roller lifters...

You can use original 68-up pushrods if cutting a corner is in the recipe .

Pushrods are cheap enough, new cam, lifters and pushrods are now on the buy list. Rocker arms the same 66-74?

Yeah, rockers are the same. Many lifters just have V cup and can take either pushrod, some have a contoured cup and are specific.
