I was a chump, and had to keep working during the stay at home subsidy period, because I was a self employed owner-operator. I got the last laugh. My investments did so well in the low interest rate environment, I got rid of my truck, retired, and now devote my energies to keeping the GTX looking good.

Yep I am self Employed also... Don't work don't get paid and I am fine with that. Embarrassing what those handouts did to our Nation and the quality of the people who received it. Now just a bunch of entitled ********.

They have the center 6 lanes set up to open. Just a few minutes ago they painted the lane lines on the pavement. Maybe by morning....

I heard on the news that they were almost ready to open it up.

Now if the bridge was contracted to be rebuilt they would take a year or more to do it. In an emergency situation they can do it in a week.

The lanes are on top of sand then blacktop and more of the same in layers. Held up by a big block wall on either side. All reusable when the actual bridge sections to either side are complete and open. Clever plan....

Most of the big bridges around here are poured solid concrete with rebar and mesh. There's one not too far from here that they did one side at a time as not to totally close the highway. Looks like they are still waiting for the final side to cure before they open both lanes.

If stuff is REALLY necessary, stuff can get fixed, or worked around.

On the other hand...... some of these worthless projects are making somebody filthy rich.
We had a perfectly serviceable, fairly major use highway with a train crossing that was fine for 40 years.
Somebody decided they needed an underpass for the train crossing. So they built one. Untold millions of dollars wasted, FIVE years closed, causing traffic grief in every direction.
Whoever authorized that project should be hung by his thumbs.
