I thought it was for the farmers originally now its for the school kids. Here is SC the little ones go to school before the high school kids. What is that all about.
Nope. Farmers were actually opposed to it (see comments above about dogs being on a set schedule - then think about hundreds of farm animals). It came from a couple things: 1- railroads. Efficient railroads meant we needed to consolidate national time zones from the hundreds, down to the current four, for scheduling reasons. 2- war. Germany actually started it during WWI - saving energy and fuel for lighting, during the war effort - and we followed suit. More daytime work hours meant less fuel consumed, which in wartime, is HUGE.
Now, though? It needs to go. Zero point to it (although I am glad all my vehicles have Alpine stereos - easy to set the clocks - except my '14 Grand Cherokee which pulls it from my cell phone).
