I'm not sure if I ever "really" said it, but, I used to own a small business, building custom Trains (yes guys I know a toy maker) but I made good money, and kept me out of the lower "next tax brackets" but anyway, I'd go to shows, I'd do the town wide garage sale, yard sale things with friends and family. I got a cash draw, yes a real register that if you push in it it goes "Ka-ding" and opens to get to the 5 slots for bills and the 5 slots for change.....needs absolutely NO power to operate! AND its double locked.....2 separate locks with 2 different keys.....The draw itself, is interesting, it has a locked in liner......The slots. are the liner, and in the back of the draw, is a 3rd key lock.... again, a SEPARATE key lock.....I bought this drawer used at a PAWN shop for $55.00, they wanted $70 but.....I talked them down just a bit but done good I thought!
I have all 3 of these keys....
When I bought the thing, I got it home and just figured out the 2 keys and figured that the 3rd was a spare to one of the other 2 on the drawer. Left it at that.....
the last train show I attended and sat up tables, my step daughter was doing the cashier thing for me as I and her then boyfriend was dealing with customers....
It got slow for a bit around lunch time, and I had made a pretty good amount of sales. Mind you a lot of this was going for household stuff as at that time, I had figured out what I needed to make in order to pay for the cost of the show, and attending it.....$1,070.00
So the taxes and all that were taken from the drawer counted by me, then my step daughter and then my friend her boyfriend. we all got the same number and I then tried to pull the drawer insert out, wouldn't move and then I got to looking for clips, nothing, this is when I discovered that 3rd lock!, and me being me, I kept all 3 keys together, and tried that 3rd lock, POP it clicked and I pulled the insert out, and put the money under the draw, and locked it back in place and went on....mind you, I got the only 3 keys to this!
I got home, and counted the cash in the drawer, subtracted what I put in it for making change, and again had almost twice the amount I put under the drawer during the show.....So at this point I got 3 times the amount I needed.....didn't think nothing of it, took the loose cash down to the hand exchanger from mine to hers to pay a few bills and left it go.....
THAT was 2 to 2 and half years ago! Then I moved the cash drawer about 3 weeks ago, turns out I forgot about the money in it and I heard change go all through that drawer.....
got my keys out and opened the drawer and got all the silver together and then the pennies, and then all the greenbacks....Then it dawned on me that I had forgotten about that "stache". I made a grand total of $3,213 that day! I put $1,070 under that drawer......
I got my 3rd key opened it up and low and behold, someone else had to have done the same thing! I had my $1070 there with another $1,000 more! I kinda felt like a ****, you know? BUT that Pawn shop I bought it from? Closed down about a year an half ago, due to the owner stealing his own merchandise and turning it in stolen to his insurance Co. yeah it was a big thing locally and in the news....So, needless to say, I didn't feel so bad but maybe if he'da been honest, and looked over his stuff a little better, he'da had/found this stache too!
As it looked, then, the money, was in there stuck to the bottom of the drawer as it looked as tho something was spilled and got under it and it just "stuck" in place.
Sadly I thought about it, I would have NEVER known had it not fallen and the change went everywhere, as I got a few bills in that are/had stacked up from me not working due to my health currently and going through surgery and a few co-pays for open heart surgery took a lot of what I had saved up so. that extra I found, helped to get me outta that rut....I'm safe now tho.....
"put in (SAFE) place" what a phrase that is!
