Some dumbass plumber around here got paid for not finishing the job. Was this supposed to be a rain water drain in the floor of the patio? I digress.
This open four-inch plastic pipe in the ground was being attacked by the dog a long time ago with all kinds of digging. There are teeth/bite marks all around the top edge of the pipe end. I never could figure out why the dog was so interested in this thing. Boredom?
Last week I wanted to begin finishing up all the crap people that were previously paid to do never followed through on. Looking down into the open pipe, I saw a few leaves inside and brought out the canister vacuum. Along with the leaves, I pulled out a dead mouse (pretty dry and crispy by now). This made me think whatever purpose this pipe was supposed to serve, became the home for one or more mice. I was thinking a mouse nest had probably plugged up the pipe by now.
This week I spent 15-20 minutes forcing the vacuum hose down the tubing which makes a sharp 90 degree turn after the first short vertical run. I ran a cable down there too which always met with some resistance no matter how many times I slid the cable down and out. Gave up.
Today, went at it again, this time with an official plumbers snake cable. Same old story, met with resistance over and over again, with interspersed tries with the vacuum pulling out what sounded like little pieces of something (which I assumed was the mouse nest breaking up, slowly but surely). This goes on for a good 30 minutes when the vacuum finally seems to plug up with something. Working the vacuum hose back and forth, in and out, we finally look down in the pipe and see something plastic colored blue and white. Once out of the hole we see a large plastic bag. Who knows how far down and inside that bag went? The bag was chewed up on one end.
Where does the pipe lead to? Where does it end? How many turns does it make? Was the bag originally stuffed in the open pipe to keep debris from falling inside the pipe? Did the mouse take advantage of the situation and pull the bag inside to make a home? Who knows?
Seems like a miracle that the bag was found and extracted, never would have seen it without one of those new fiber optic camera things.
