I have always been a Chevy guy and it is quite simple to ID an original quarter panel. Open the trunk and the gutters alongside the weather stripping show the factory spot welds. Additionally at the top of each gutter a number is stamped. This is a batch number and was only done at the factory. Even if you purchased a GM quarter over the counter at a Chevy dealer, there was no stamped number.

Having said all that, how do you ID an original 66 or 67 Belvedere quarter panel or for that matter any Mopar quarter?

I ID my panels by the look.....and the 66-67 quarter is the same but the tail light is different but interchanges.

If it's installed on the car, usually the first cue will be how the sound deadener is applied on the inside and if the lip where the lower quarter attaches to the drop off is too wide. a good restorer will take care of the issues and will duplicate the factory spot welds as well, making it much harder to tell. Often times the marker lights ( if so equipped) are not in exactly the right position. On a car that gets a tailstripe, the shop will often cut around the original marker light so that the stripe will position correctly.

Thanks for all the detail, but it is too much info.
I just want to know if there are spot welds down the gutter and any stamped number on an original. Thanks
