I'm putting a all new 6 pack set up on my 75 440. I'm seeing a idle solenoid on some pictures and some with out. Just what do they do and will I need one.

they are to bump up idle if you have AC

My '71 383 with NO AC had an idle solenoid. It's purpose was to prevent the engine from desieling or running on when the ignition switch was shut off.

Idle is set with the idle solenoid, and when power is shut off, the solenoid is de-energized, and allows the butterflies in the carb to close fully, preventing run-on/dieseling.
