If you've ever installed new seat foam I need your help

Hi guys. Picked up new high density foam (2") for my front bench seat bottom today and started to install it tonight. I'm having a problem with the hog rings pulling through the damn foam (actually the other way around). I have the foam secured for now, but I wonder if the foam will continue to pull through the rings once the cover is installed, messing things up. Any tips or advice or words of wisdom? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I did watch the video but there was no mention of this issue. I tried searching as well with Google, but that was useless as usual. In the video the guy states he's using 2" foam yet the kit they sell is 1.5". I wonder if that's my problem.

Go to a fabric store and get some material they call "duck cloth". Cut 4 strips about 6"-7" wide and as long as the sides and the top and bottom are. Use 3M Super 77 spray adhesive and glue half of the strip(width-wise) along the edges of the foam. Once the glue has dried, you can now hog-ring the other half of the cloth strip to the metal frame without having to put hog rings thru the foam and having them pull out and rip the foam.

Go for it. The worst that should happen is that you need to remove a few hog rings. The new foam was a bitch to install so I followed the advice of glueing some material to the foam and installing the hog rings through that. Double check your work frequently, document how the old covers were attached (if original) and you should be alright. Post pics when done.

My seat frames should be back early this week, my neighbor offered to blast them and power coat gloss black ! Material is supposed to arrive tomorrow, then the fun begins. I saw that trick with the fabric glued to the foam, hoping I have some extra muslin to use for that ...

son of a bitch, guess i'll be calling legendary tomorrow. Have nowhere enough burlap in the kit to finish both seat bottom and back. And didn't even get one hog ring ! Kind of pissed, for that money it should be more than enough to finish a set of front or rear seats .......

A local fabric store should be able to hook you up with what you need. If you had your frame blasted, make sure you hit it with air to remove all grit.

Frames were blasted then powder coated, no grit. I ended up going to an upholstery shop, they honed me up with a bunch of stuff. Even got a few hundred hog rings. Only have the 2 split seat backs left.
