Not sure what I am doing wrong - installed lock cylinder into ignition switch without key in. Stuck key in and turned cylinder so cam on switch lines up with cylinder. Problem is, cannot get cylinder to lock position and pull key out no matter what I try.

I am sure all parts are installed and working correctly. Am I missing a step?

Year please...Usually gotta have key in.

I will try - it will be difficult to show in a photo. I found that the cam on the ignition switch is hitting the lock lever spring assembly in the back when I try to return it to the off position.

Here is photo - cam on ignition switch hits lock levers and spring assembly in back and wont allow key to turn all the way to off position. Help! been messing with this for hours.

well tomorrow i actually replacing the ignition cylinder on my car so , i will look and see what could happen
what year your b body

Is a 70 Roadrunner. I should mention I am converting a 3 on the tree to a floor shift. I am wondering if I even need the lock lever spring assembly since there is no longer a column shift. When I remove it, it all works fine.

have you took care of the collum collar system what needs to be depressed down to get completelly back the ign switch ?

( read the instructions on collar lever )

This collar is spring loaded

if look closelly, there is also a double lever system which locks the steering wheel AND the ign switch cam. Both are hold by the same spring

That lever works with the collumn collar, which needs to be depressed to release the lever over the ign switch cam. I guess on column shifter, this lever works with the shifter system on parking position.

I have the ign switch cam installed between the double lever system. It looks exactly like your photo. I can turn it toward the dash (like I am starting it) fine. When I turn it back - it come to within about a 1/4" to off then stops. Cannot retract the key.

I am moving the column shift to the floor. I am wondering if I even need the double lever system. As you said, it appears this is needed for the column shifter? When I install the ign switch into the cylinder WITHOUT the double lever system, it works fine.

the double lever is used on both systems ( floor and column shifters ) just that on column shifter is released being in parking and in floor shifter is released by the last colum collar or jacket.

I think maybe you are not getting it because maybe you never have seen how the collar with the casted lever works. The collar rotates to release the ign switch lock lever.

Do you still have the column shifter setup on your column? have yout tried to set it up like if it was on parking ?

I got it - I started over, removed cylinder and started playing with the double lever. There is a casting in the aftermarket column sleeve that would not allow the double lever to move down all the way. Rotated the column housing, re-installed it and it all works.

Thanks so much for the help.

Oh, so you got an aftermarket column! Didn't know. Well the stock one needs to be pressed down at the same time you back up the key to the release key position. Then will keep there. If you read the instructions label on the first pic I posted you can read that.

The collar is spring loaded. When you insert the key and turn it on, the spring will move the collar CCW, blocking the switch from be moved to the release key position. That's why the collar needs to be pressed down at the same time you turn the key. The collar gets a tab casted in to allow that move easilly with the same hand you move the key cylinder with the thumb finger, hence the reason the cylinder key gets a bigger "ear" on bottom side.
