good evening , is a ballist resistor required when switching from points to chrysler electronic ignition

thank you. electronic module keeps going bad every 2 months or so im thinking pick up is going south.

I changed from points to Pertronix. Supposed to eliminate the ballast resistor. I took mine off and soldered a jumper wire on the backkside and re-installed. Undetectable.

It depends on the ECU. 5 pin ECU REQUIRES the 4 tab ballast resistor, the 4 pin ECU does not...

Right, but unless he has a coil designed for 12 volts constantly he should still be running a resistor.

Is your coil compatible with the Pertronix module? Follow the Pertronix recommendations.....do not assume anything......ask the equipment supplier, not a "buddy".....mix matching is never a good idea....

The original Direct Connection electronic ignition conversion kits actually came with a ballast that was rated 0.8ohms
(2-wire ballast, 4 pin ECU).
Of course, Chrysler factory electronic had those 4-pin ballasts starting when, like 1972?

Bad pick up does not take out the ECU.

Do yu have points or elec ign. Posts 1 & 5 are confusing.

If elec, best bang for buck & keeping your current dist is GM HEI conversion. No bal res reqd [ & more spark energy ] if used with an E core coil, such as MSD 8207.
