Independent Rear Suspension

This is an old thread, but THIS is my project. Yes, it's an F-body, but....I currently have a 69 B-body 8 3/4 housing in my Volare. The 2003 Cobra IRS is less than 1/2" wider- 61".

The IRS uses the standard Ford 8.8" ring gear but with an aluminum housing.

Food for thought.

The viper uses an AL D-44 with AL half shafts, it is wider than the b body.

I have seen many a viper exceed 600hp and not break anything, even double that, even almost triple that.

Now all it takes is some hopping and 300hp can break anything.

Most all IRS cars use a cradle as seen above and make swapping to the IRS much easier, id go with the fords over the dodges simply because only the Viper is US made dana the rest are MB, and if you aren't very well versed with diffs you will never get the mb diff right, not to mention the weak link on the mopar mb drivelines are the tri-pod set ups which if you want to drag race without having torque management you'll be having many a episode with them.
