I tore down the top end of my 440 over the winter and added new performer RPM heads and Hughes cam & lifters. I have lower compression TRW L2266-.030 pistons. So I have almost the same build as one listed on Hughes website with the whiplash cam that I used. It had only 491 HP but 578 ft lbs torque. My cam break in went good it took me about 10 revolutions to get it in time enough to start it went good after start up and I have a few miles on it and am very happy. My question is I don't have funds for a good heads on spring compressor. Would it be fine to run it without the inner springs for a wile until I save the funds up? I know I would have to keep my foot out of it with less spring pressure.

I would say as long as you don't allow the valve train to go into a harmonic (high RPM) you will be fine. And the cam will like the lower spring pressure too.

Yeah I kinda figured it was fine. I spent my play money I saved for 3 years and squeezed a little out of the family budget to get everything done. If not for the firmfeel gearbox rebuild I would have been fine. I can say it sounds good and it tuned easy.
Thanks for the responses.
