Instrument Panel Led Lights

I thought you had to take the windshield out to get to the bolts holding the dash in? So that's my lack of motivation for doing it. Alternatively, my hands might be enough to get in and swap the bulbs out. Really really want to have red LEDs in, as I love the red lights in my Autometer gauge pod.

Should look pretty slick with Red Lee! I'd deal with a 5 minute headrush long before a trim/windshield/dash removal myself. Either way, gonna look cool and you'll enjoy them!

You will need to remove the blue lenses from inside the cluster if you want red lights in your cluster. Alternatively, you could use blue LEDs in the cluster and swap the aftermarket gauge bulbs to blue.

We went a little bit of a different way with my car to avoid the uneven projection as LED's are directional.

I've got the Rallye dash, so want each gauge lit up.

Did the Rallye dash have a blue overlay? Or just the Road Runners?

no no. Want red, or just plain white. not a fan of the blue.

Sorry. The rallye dash has the blue lenses. You could remove the blue lenses and pop in some white gauge faces with red LEDs for a nice look.

One more option with red light:

The dash entirely maybe, but you need to remove the cluster only. Sorry, that is what we have been talking about. I see why you were freaked out. So the cluster has to come out.

That worked well!

Hehehehe.......I thought maybe you polished down a few Olvi's, talking about removing the dash. LOL

I just replaced the dash lights on my 68' RR a couple of months ago. They are not that hard to replace without removing the dash. First, don't bother trying to lay down where you can see what you are doing.........it is next to impossible to contort your arms into all the angles and see anything.

Get comfortable close to the dash and reach up carefully behind the dash and you will be able to locate the bulbs rather easily, a simple twist to remove them is all it takes.

Use this diagram as a guide to help locate each lamp. Another tip is to turn on the dash lights as you replace each lamp, you will know right away if you have the polarity correct if the lamp turns on, if not just flip it 180 and reinstall.

One more thing would be to buy a few extra lamp holder bases, as they are easy to break and or drop in the dash.

image.jpgimage.jpgAfter reading this thread I thought I'd change the bulbs in my dash with L.E.D's. Cost me £3 or aprox $2.50 from eBay. Didn't have to remove the dash to install just had to bend my arms and fingers into a few tight spaces but managed it. Took about 30 minutes all in.
The results are fantastic compared with the dull dim dash I had before.
Glad this thread was started.
