I've thought about casting a resin version of the '62/'63 dash speaker grille (for cars w/o dash pad).

Any interest in these?

I thought someone else was doing them (or going to) a few years back but can't seem to find anything after doing multiple searches.

It was me that had some of these rare speaker grilles molded a few years back. I located a prototype plastic molding company in Michigan who catered to the auto industry. I supplied them with a NOS speaker grille which they used to produce a resin mold. It took a few tries to get it right but we ended up with about 40 really top quality grilles before the mold wore out.
Trouble was that it was a pretty expensive procedure and the price of the grilles were about more then the limited market would support.
An aluminum mold was an option for higher production but the cost was astronomical. I did sell every grille we made at $200.00 -$225.00 each and that was the end of that.

Perhaps the market has improved now as the 62-63 cars are becoming more popular. Just about every one I see, no matter how nice the car is suffers from a flawed speaker grille. The last NOS grille I sold went for $500.00.

Perhaps a poll to see who would be willing to pay in the $200.00 range for one might be a good indicater. good luck with the project.

Buddy of mine's looking for a 62 Plymouth grill.

I sure could use a speaker grille for my 63 Belvedere...probably needs to be under $250.

Has anything changed on this topic? Is anyone currently making the grilles again? Thanks!

Nope.

I found a decent used one for my current project.

I was unemployed most of this summer so that didn't help with the cashflow I needed for a project like this.

I really need a perfect NOS or used one but no one stepped up with that either.

speaker grill

Im looking for a speaker grill for my 62. Bought a used one, but it was pretty much junk. A repop would be nice.

A nice aluminum one would be nice. I have a 63 Dart that needs one.

Will,

I have a friend six mile from me that is in the injection molding business, ask him about doing them not more than two months ago, what he quoted there would have to be a very large market to recoup the initial cost and make a profit.

FYI, Special-T's Unlimited has these speaker grilles @ $375, and has had them for a few years, got one for my 62 Savoy and 63 Polara, these are ready to paint, no complaints, see MCG

I would be interested in one
I was in the Rapid Prototyping buss. and new proceess have developed, like 3D printing. Silicone rubber Molds Silicone
A good source to try is;
Vaupell Rapid Prototyping in Hudson NH. 603 577 9970 , Ask for the Short Run Molding and Prototyping ,they will provide a quote for several options and Qtys.
Web site link is ; http://www.vaupell.com/rapid-prototyping

I have a pretty nice used one had it on my car until I had my dash pad redone it is a 63

If someone is already selling them for $375,I assume the tooling, production and distribution cost is quite high,I doubt it would be cost effective to sell for less for a limited market, you are looking at a 2 year model span and also not the complete model line. It's easy for people to say I'll take one and then there are those already have so would it really justify the cost ?

Uhhhh....... You are special T's...... Why not just say you offer them for sale???

I Purchased one from Special T's. Nice looking and fitting part. Just had to pick myself up off the floor on the cost. But I understand the pricing for a limited volume part.
