I have much of my trim out due to a dash replacment and I want to redo it before I replace it. I remembered that I have a product called Plastic Renew that I used to use back when we were racing dirt bikes cross country in the TCCRA. That is basicly 40-55 miles run on an 8-12 mile loop of what ever the hell is out there, run under all conditions. So after 16 races and 20+ play weekends you could be pretty sure that those bikes were thrashed. At the end of the season I gave them a good cleaning and stain removal.
Then hit em with the Plastic Renewand the bikes came out looking like they were right of the showroom floor. this could be the problem, think about a brand new dirt bike, it has plastic that almost has a mirror like super high gloss finish.
Here is my question just how high a gloss should all that plastic in my car have. Is something akin to a clear coat too much gloss. should it be a little flatter. It shure would be cool to have it sparkle but would it draw your eye and cause you to think something ain't quite right, don't know what but something JDLR?

Thanks for your opinions

on my 76 I use dupli-color interior paint..dont like gloss on plastic from the factory its muted...so I go back muted.. even on the metal parts, glove box door, lower dash panels....it all came from the factory muted in color...

Yeah I got to part washing and some of the trim is metal so metal will never shine like plastic with the plastic renew with it, It will look out of place.
What I used on all the dash metal was wd 40. That really made the old painted metal look like new and I suspect it will do as well on plastic.
Lord knows I love the smell of WD40 in the morning!
But I'll let the parts breathe for a few days before reinstallation.

WD40 on plastic? your thoughts?

Thank You

I have used wd40 on plastic but the painted plastic be careful of. It removed some paint on some of my plastic slot cars I had.
