Interior restoration

Did some work to the Charger today. Starting the slow process of putting the interior back in. The carpet isn't an exact fit (ACC Carpet kit). It took some trimming to make the first 2 pieces fit. I'm going to have to trim the carpet for the floor of the hatch. there is a good picture showing the front door panel to what the panels look like now.

I restored my console top with SEM trim black. The insert was an absolute mess. After carefully removing it I set up a jig by drilling holes for the pins in a sheet of plywood and guides parallel to the piece for my sanding block Then I used a rubber sanding block with 60 or 80 grit emery cloth and a lot if wd40 and move back and forth until i was satisfied with the look. I plan to use the same method on all if the brushed al in the car.

I also tried a replacemen carpet kit today and not one piece fits worth a damn. Stellar work on the white with red. It really pops.

more pieces finished and installed. the driver's seat is in as I need to drive it to get the wiring for the stereo setup. it's getting there. but what a PITA. it's like a giant jigsaw puzzle. good thing i have the original sun visors. I was cleaning up the ones that were in the car and the piping around the edge had no stitching. so i dyed the red ones white. any way enjoy.

well the jigsaw puzzle of interior is taking longer to get back in. I went to drop the car off to get the wiring for the radio done. The power steering hose ruptured, sprayed fluid all over the parking lot. But also all over the exhaust manifold. I ordered the part from Rock Auto and replaced all the power steering hoses Wednesday. So crisis averted there. I'm having the stock radio modernized from the guys at turnswitch.com. Because of the hatch the wiring for the stereo gear that is going in the trunk has to go over the wheel well. So I can't put the driver's side back together until that that gets prewired. But that's not stopping me from continuing on the passenger side. All the panels for the passenger are done and back in the car.

How many cans do you think you've gone through of the sem color coat? I'm going to follow your example and do mine, but my interior is tan, so I'm thinking about using the palamino color instead.

Catch is, noone around me sells it, so I'm going to have to order it and have it shipped

so far with the white I've used 4 and half cans. I have the driver's door, 2 door arm rests and the driver's door arm rest bezel left to do. I'll probably need 1 can in case i need to touch anything up after all the interior is back in. I also have 1 can of red and I have about half of that left. But the red was only used for the console. The sem color coat is amazing. I've covered of red and black with it. worth every penny.

Well I replaced the power steering hoses after the high pressure hose busted when i went to drop of the car for the prewiring for the stereo. I dropped the car off again and the prewiring was done and I brought it home. I also had 3M Crystalline Window Film installed on the back window. It made a huge difference working in the car today. Which is good because I can now continue on re-installing the interior. I got the rear door panel installed. But was held up because of the ridiculous clips that hold the up trim piece on. I'll do what I did on the other side which is get some plastic push pins and ditch those stupid clips. Here are some more pictures.

You got a pic of the plastic trim clips? I seem to be a little short myself and need something to hold the trim on as well.

well so far this weekend the weather has not cooperated. Saturday Happytoes and I nearly got heatstroke. We were outside for about 2 hours and it was blazing hot outside. So we waited til today (Sunday) in the afternoon and after being outside for about an hour it rained. We even checked the local radar and no rain in sight. it was a typical florida rain and lasted like a half and hour. It did cool it off nicely and we went back to work. Happytoes crawled under the car and put the nuts on the gas pedal. There are some pictures test fitting the console so I could cut the hole in the carpet for the shifter. The front half of the console still needs to be dyed and some additional work still needs to be done of the back half.

That black metal seat hinge sure rubs your nice white leather. Maybe try cutting a piece of that clear plastic like they put on the front of a car to protect from rock chips and stick it on the inside of the hinge where it touches the seat cushion so it doesn't discolor it?

yep, i need to clean that up and paint the brackets. it cleans up and isn't permanent, yet. but I am not taking any chances. so more work it is.
