Interior windshield trim screw clips

Hi All, So what's the trick to re-installing these six clips that hold the upper windshield
trim piece on? Looks like they were installed and "spread" before the roof skin was installed.
Can't do that now! I was thinking of drilling two holes in the framework and Pop-Riveting
them so they're nice and tight. Whaddaya think? Somehow they all got removed in the
last 46 years for some reason???

can you drill 1 hole and screw the trim on instead of riveting those up?

No, if you look at the clips, they are bent 90 degrees and there is nothing in front of the clip
except the rubber windshield gasket.

Im thinking then that will be your only choice, I hope it will work out for you.

How about using silicone on the clips so you dont have to drill holes? Let them dry and No weight on the trim piece so it should work.

The tabs stick out a bit on the outside. If you squeeze them just enough to push in the hole, you then squeeze the outside of the tabs to expand them in the hole. Very carefully they break easy. I found the original ones were better than the after market for strength. If you look at my build on post #348, you’ll see how i fixed one of the replacement ones. Worked fine.

Totally agree. The tabs didn’t go in far enough on mine and broke real easy. Try not to move them too much, just squeeze enough to get in the hole and just enough to firm them up. Doesn’t need to be super tight.

I know I "tripped" over them somewhere? Maybe go to E-Bay and search under 1968
Road Runner Parts? I think.

I know this is an old thread, but just went through this and wanted to add my 2 cents. The repops are junk and break super easy, BUT I found the trick to making them work! The repop metal is hard which is why they are breaking. If you take a propane torch and heat the repop clips cherry red and then let the slow cool, it anneals the metal making it soft and bendable like the originals. Works like a charm!!!!

Another option:
If you’re a newbie like me and installed your windshield before the trim brackets, here’s the solution I came
up with. I flattened the tabs, drilled holes in them and then used wellnuts and screws to attach them. Seem really sturdy.

Wellnuts size was 6/32 x 1/2in

3/4in screws
