Irwindale speedway was supposed to be closed by now. But it has remained open. What I have heard is that the complex was built over a sea of tires. And there can be no developement on this site unless the tires are removed. Really good to hear this if its true.

I hope it can stay open too...

we've lost enough Calif. Drags strips including the org. Irwindale strip already...

Yeah, thats the dragstrip I made my first pass on. Just before it closed. Other tracks I used that have closed since:Orange County International,Carlsbad,Los Angeles County and the Brotherhood on Terminal Island. Oh yeah,Rialto Airport. Never been on Pomona dragstrip even though I lived within walking distance for 5 years. Go figure.

Lions, Half Moon Bay, Kingdon/Lodi, Cotati/Santa Rosa,
Baylands/Fremont, Vaca Valley/Vacaville, Long Beach, Riverside,
San Gabriel, San Fernando, Ballico/Turlock, Santa Barbra,
Ontario International/LA

Among those you had listed & few others I probably missed too...

I remember most of them, but I was just a young spectator with my step Dad,
I didn't have the opportunity to race on the majority of them unfortunately,
but was privileged to see some that actually did, many closed before I was of driving age
great times, it was the true "hayday of year round West Coast Drag Racing",
all the big names came here, in the winter especially, when their Northern or eastern tracks
were shut down for the season...

Also, "WE" in the Antelope Valley lost the LACR
Los Angeles County Raceway (or "LACR") was a motorsport facility in Southern California.
LACR's main feature was its 1/4-mile dragstrip, which was first opened in 1964 and lasted until 2007.

Yeah,I had been to Lions, Riverside and Ontario too. You know what? They just barely started building on that huge lot that was Ontario. Started tilt ups couple months ago. 30-35 years it was an empty lot.

Yeah same thing with Fremont, it was still idle for decades,
just too many whinny neighbors I think,
that usually all moved there, after the tracks were already there...
Lawsuits too...

Just like the idiots that buy next to an airport because it's cheap &
then whine about the noise constantly !!
what were you thinking people ??

Yup,
Whining about the noise
"Well, why did you buy the house?"
(Racetrack was there years before the homes were built)
