didn't notice till recently that the front cover for the 727 torque flight trans on my 70gtx is not there. can see the torque converter and gear teeth for starter. interestingly i've seen a number of these covers missing on other mopars that i viewed photos of while searching for cars. like many, i don't drive the car offroad or in rain, but is it a problem it's missing? can one be purchased aftermarket or from another source (Summit, Jeggs, etc).

It’s not an immediate problem, but if it were me, I’d install a cover ASAP. You should check this site to buy one

The only way it would be a problem is if a rock or some debris got thrown in there and somehow damaged the cogs for the starter. If it were me, I would start a wanted thread and get one installed. Should not be hard to find. You would also need four 1/4"- 20 X 1/2" hex head bolts.
It is called a "Torque converter inspection plate"

I agree replace it. What motor is in the car? If I am not mistaking thats a cast crank flex plate.

Unless it's something you want because of the look? I wouldn't bother. The starter has to be removed to install the shield. That can be challenging with headers on your back. I run a lot of hot rod stuff without them. Cast crank flex plate PN is 10236. 440 6pac with heavy rods PN is 10238. The number is stamped on the flex plate.

That one does not require the starter to be pulled.

Not often mentioned; there's 2 different ones. A small bolt pattern and large. The link appears to me to be the SBP one, which should work.

If you don't drive much it will be fine, but the factory put it there for a reason. Think of all the grit, oil, dirt, bugs etc that are going to build up in there over time.

I put them in my Mopars. It's not that difficult and it's one less thing to worry about.

I don't like to run without them. Lots of time they get left off because the bolts hit the cover plate. I make my own out of aluminum that are spaced away from the bolts so I no longer have that issue. Even the race car has one.

remember back in the time where gas tanks had drain plugs ? trans pan ? even older rear ends ? WHY did the big 3 stop ....... MONEY it cost 2 bucks per car[ do not count trucks] made in 1969 over 1 million that = 2 mill in MORE PROFIT so now you know dose it make you feel warm and fuzzy :luvplace:
