That could be the original motor and the dealer may have rebuilt it rather than a new short block? The 2-3-70 would be good on a car built 2-24-70, if it was AFTER 2-24-70 that would not be possible.

The numbers on the ID pad should be F440 and have HP stamped also

it does so the chances are good that this motor is the original i guess ill save this and build my stroker from another thanks

The factory spent as little money as possible to fix warranty problems. They seldom replaced engines and rebuilt them if at all possible rather than replace engines.

You have to remember that the sceduled production date is just that, SCHEDULED. Very often the car was assembled AFTER that date so even with an engine assembly date AFTER the cars SPD it could be the original engine.

If you engine has the correct V.I.N. to the car and it appears to be the correct font etc. I would believe that it IS the original engine.

One way to verify that aspect is to have the original dealer invoice(dealers copy) or pre delivery invoice which would actually date when the car was delivered. 40 Plus years later that kind of paper work is usually long gone! But you never know what has been boxed away for years either, so it always pays to dig around and ask, especially if the original dealer is still in business:yes:.

I would it is the original block. The dealer rebuilt it or just fixed the issue.I do not see the dealer taking the time to stamp the block especially when there was no need to.
