Is my sending unit bad?

Gauge is good. Had the grandson watching it while I grounded it quick.
Took the sending unit out. The float is fine. No gas in it. I held the float under water and no bubbles.
I can't get a good reading on ohms. My tester could be junk. I'll try my buddies tomorrow. Just in case, is there a preferred sending unit I can order (the least crappy one)? I really don't want to wait to get this one rebuilt, I can do that later.

Water testing a float isn't the way to test it surface tension. Lacquer thinner or gas etc. Could be broken wire inside where arm travels rheostat wire. Open it up if wire is broken at one you could unwind one lap and re-attach. Did than 40 years ago when I couldn't get a 3/8" pickup for my 66 Satellite. When it's reading empty got 4 gallons left.
