Is this a road runner grill?

I thought that red white and blue bar was for a satellite? IMG_0367.jpg

No. Satellite. Bird would have a bird head in the center.

That said, if you swap out the color bar for a bird head, you'd have a '71 RR grille.

Hmm... has a RM23 (RR) on fender tag -- but the tag's not on the fender. I'm not seeing a photo of the actual VIN tag. Another "interesting" find! Wonder why this car got a 'custom' Starsky & Hutch stripe when the RR strobe fit so much better.

I'd put $1K on it being a Satellite. There's no "road runner" on the lower front quarters, no circle bird on the trunk lid, the dash isn't installed, the fender tag could be from any purple bird...

Head on over here and have fun decoding, see what you think:

see what i mean...LOL
I'm sure I can get it cheap it enough but I think it not a legit RR
I'll call and ask for the VIN

Ask for a clear photo of the VIN, taken through the windshield. Otherwise you could just get the same VIN that's shown on the amputated fender tag.

First off 71 RR/Satellite and 72 Satellite grilles are exactly the same. That cars grille was most likely broken sometime in its life and replaced with a grille from a Satellite. There is FC7 purple paint all over that car and it is on the fender tag as well. That car has the rare Strato Vent option and the gauge cluster is intact. It appears to me that car is legit but the vin will confirm all.

He is going to send me a pic of the vin, he's military its on base. I like it to be honest, it was smacked in the rear quarter hard enough to dent the inner well but it was hammer out and filled and it needs to be redone. No drive train except I can have a 66' 383 if I want it, its in shortblock form and would need a total rebuild.. Car is a column shift I would like a 4 speed but you cant have it all .. can you?
The Plum crazy paint I like so it would be going back on and so would a chin spoiler and rear one.... did i say i like the car?...LOL But I don't want to make a mistake.

What do I look for when I go to check it out?

Wow, Rusty, you really DO have that purist bug, bad. I know the first thing I do whenever I see a nice RR is break out the screwdriver and take off the grille so I can read the part number....

here is the vin an sheet... The wiring harness is mostly missing he said so thats another concern..... looks good otherwise though

RM -- you've got a winner! :icon_bounce: And a new wiring harness can be had for $400 - a little less, even, when YearOne is doing one of its 25% off days.

btw, that build sheet is in REALLY good shape...!

I'm liking it !!... need to come up with the cash now...LOL.. But is 3k a good deal without engine or trans?

All sounds good.
BUT: Keep your emotions "in-check".
Sometimes 'we" become emotionally overwhelmed and we "overlook" issues.
Good luck and keep us posted.
