I've Always Been A Poncho Fan...

This is what classic cars are all about, even on a mopar site. The total love of the car! Well done.
First Pontiac my family owned, 1958.

I had a 68 Firebird back in the day. I sold it to buy a 70 Charger R/T SE. My friend has about a half dozen of them. He has a 64 Grand Prix 389, a 69 Firebird 400 convertible,a 69 Grand Prix 400,a 70 Grand Prix 455,a 98 Trans Am Ram Air 6 speed convertible with only 300 miles on it,and a 99 Trans Am Ram Air 6 speed that he drives on nice days.

The tripower wagon is pretty neat!
My brother and I used to dirt track race a pontiac w a 455. Then came a 71 T-37, 68 GTO and a 77 trans am, all projects to some degree. Off in the weeds is a 50 pontiac chief 2 door straight 8 that my Grandpa's owned. One of my close friends certainly had pontiac influences as he a has a 70 judge, 70 455 GTO and a 66 Tempest. The tempest he just sent a picture yesterday, and picture of the 455 in the T-37 frame sitting w the 4 speed TA in the back ground

It always seems to me the build quality was much better and the styling when you went to Pontiac, Olds and Buick.. now they all stink! Change a airbag on the tiller and couple of badges and boom it’s a Cadillac from a low line Chevy! They’ve all done it though— and they wonder why they don’t sell!

You guys now I'm a Grand Am freakazoid. I haven't done anything on them lately. The black 73 is a 455. The orange 73 is a hot rodded 400. The silver 74 is a 455.

I owned, and loved, plenty of Ponchos back in my younger days... '60 Catalina, '62 Ventura, '63 Grand Prix, '64 GTO, several '55/56 coupes.

My neighbor had a 421 SD '63 named Poncho's Pilot

I owned three SD 421 engines at one time.

I went to the GM training center in '68 to become a GM Certified tech. We got a brand new '68 Grand Prix that we completely disassembled system by system and reassembled and it all had to work!

It was a triple black 428 car... beautiful.

Did the tin indians have oiling issues that the 455 olds does? Slow to return as it hangs in the top end due to design.

This is my 70 GTO, restored to original, 400 cu. Muncie 4-speed. This car was made at the Oshawa plant in Canada. This sits next to my 69 Charger in the garage, I rotate them when going to shows or cruise-ins.....

No oiling issues that I know of. Some complained about Pontiacs 455 big 3.25" main journals. Our 455 was not stock but we would turn 6200 in the straights for 25 laps at a 1/2 mile track. The Olds seem to have issues w a high volume oil pump and extended rpms. But we never had a issue on ours. Been a long, long time since we built our 455 Olds..I can't remember what we had for a oil pump.

I traded my 2000 WS6 TA for my first Mopar. Now it’s Mopar or no car for me.

Never owned a Pontiac , liked them in the 60’s
Had a lot of Olds and Dodges.GM has messed it all up ! Buicks to where very nice , now it’s only shitty SUV’s !

Okay, officially not a Pontiac but I must mention it here. My Pontiac Vibes. A joint product be tween Pontiac and Toyota. They called it a Matrix. I'm bringing it up because it's the best little car ever. 5 Door crossover. Comes in GT, AWD, and FWD. You'd be surprised at its roominess and sportiness. Because it's a Pontiac you'll be shocked at how much cheaper it is compared to the Toyota.

I've had 4 and loved them. Who doesn't need a cheap, dependable and fun car in your life.

Nice GTO. I remember when the 70 model was introduced I hated them at first sight - thought they looked like a mutant frog from the front. Two years later I owned the gold 400/4 speed one I pictured earlier so I guess they greatly grew on me. I put a set of the old style, tin can Thrush glass packs on it and I think it was the best sounding car I’ve ever owned. Always had a problem with some clutch chatter and I could have that Muncie on the driveway in an hour but never seemed to get to the root cause which I now think was probably the original female owner frying and warping the flywheel. But underway it was a great driving car with a free-reving engine and slick transmission.

I have no problems with the Muncie 4-speed in mine, car runs like a dream, on very hot summer days temp guage seems to go up a bit. On the other hand, my 69 Charger (383 Magnum with 727) runs as cool as a cucumber no matter what the outside temp is, I really love this about it. This pic of the gold 70 GTO is the one driven by actor Paul Newman in the movie "Slapshot", a local guy bought it and restored it and brings it to some local shows. Is this the same color as your previously owned GTO ?
Tks,

So many times these days I wonder why GM killed or left Pontiac to die ? Then left the low price leader lead.. Chrysler did the opposite killed Plymouth and left the rest.

That’s the same on the outside but it had a brown interior and that one looks like it might be gold inside. Ended up getting a 75 4-speed Trans Am and my Mother sold the car for me in 1975 in the Ok City area. That Trans Am was a real dog in comparison, but after cam, headers, SD dual exhaust, intake change, 3.73 gears, reworked carb and HEI, it ran pretty well.
